Immigration

A radiological report is required in respect of every prospective immigrant 12 years of age and over as evidence of your good health, mainly to check if you have Tubercolosis. The results of an applicant’s health status will determine whether an applicant is admissible to south Africa.

When you need to get a chest x-ray for immigration purposes, make sure you have all your visa application documents ready.

An identity document/ Passport.

Yes, a charge of R500 is required to be paid prior the examination. Unfortunately we do not accept medical aid for this particular examination, it is performed strictly on cash payment.

Should you require a copy of of your x-ray images, you need to inform the radiographer when you are having an examination.

Comprehensive x-rays

An x-ray examination is performed through a use of an electrical device that emits x-rays and digital technology to create 2- dimensional pictures of internal body structures. This test is particularly useful in diagnosing conditions or disease that affect the bones and other body organs. You may experience some discomfort due to cool temperature in the examination room and coldness of the recording plates.

  • Diagnosis of fractures- detection of broken bones is one of the most common uses of this test.
  • Diagnosis of dislocations- an x-ray examination can reveal if the bones at a joint are abnormally positioned.
  • Diagnosis of bone or joint condition- for example, types of cancer, arthritis or osteoporosis.
  • Diagnosis of Chest Conditions- such as Pneumonia, Lung Cancer, Heart Failure, Tuberculosis, etc.
  • Diagnosis of foreign object- for example, metal fragments or swallowed coins.
  • Diagnosis of digestive tract- such as constipation or any abdominal abnormality.
    • Female patients should inform the referring doctor should they suspect they may be pregnant. If pregnant and an x-ray procedure is really necessary, precautions will be taken to minimise radiation exposure to the foetus.
    • X-rays usually have no side effects in the typical diagnostic range of examinations and you can generally resume your normal activities after an x-ray examination.
    • There is no special preparation for conventional x-ray examinations.
    • A conventional x-ray examination does not require any special preparation, other than possibly having to change into a hospital gown.
    • Routine x-ray examination is a painless and non-invasive procedure.
    • Depending on the part of the body being examined, you may be asked to remove jewellery and other objects that may obscure the structures of interest.
    • All x-ray examinations are digital files that are stored electronically are easily accessible for further diagnosis and disease management.

    All x-ray images are analysed and interpreted by a specialist, radiologists, and reports together with x-ray images are provided to patient approximately within an hour after an examination for review by referring doctor.

Road Accident Fund X-Rays

Sikhosana Radiographers located in Pretoria, Kempton Park, Germiston and Durban are able to offer your RAF clients black and white digital X – Rays (with print-out).

 

We are contracted to the RAF and are registered as a Vendor (RAF Vendor No: 6049656). We Are also able to assist you with your PRASA Clients.

We are able to assist your RAF clients at no charge to you as we bill the RAF directly:

  1. Defendants on RAF with a Referral letter from the Examining Doctor / Orthopaedic Surgeon and an Instruction Letter from the Attorneys is produced.
  2. Plaintiffs on RAF may be assisted at a flat rate of R800 (incl VAT) per region. We only require a referral letter from the Examining Doctor / Orthopaedic Surgeon.
